Neil Huffman Subaru Supports the Kentucky Humane Society

Community Spotlight: Kentucky Humane Society

Our Neil Huffman auto family of dealers love to support local Louisville, KY, area charities and organizations! Throughout the month of October, Neil Huffman Subaru had the pleasure of hosting a donation drive for the Kentucky Humane Society.  We love to support our community, so we thought we’d tell you a little bit about why this organization is so special to the staff at Neil Huffman.

Founded in 1884, the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) is the largest pet adoption agency in Kentucky and is the longest running animal welfare agency in the state. KHS is a not-for-profit organization based on providing animals loving homes through pet adoption. The Kentucky Humane Society believes in animal welfare and their vision is “KHS envisions a day when every companion animal is given the care, resources and lifelong home they deserve.”

In support of this vision, KHS is a no-kill shelter and refuses to euthanize any animal due to their lack of room for the animals. The Kentucky Humane Society believes in the future of all animals that they take in. In 2017, KHS saved 97% of all animals they took in, placing 6,158 cats, dogs and horses in their forever homes. Unfortunately, despites its best efforts, KHS cannot rehabilitate every animal, because some are too gravely ill or behaviorally unsound to be saved.

The core values of KHS are Compassion, Inspiration, Evolution and the ability to stay “Pawsitive.” KHS believes in the value of our community and the ability to collaborate, persevere, inspire and lead change in our communities that leads to positivity and “Embracing optimism at all times with animals, ourselves, each other and our community.” These values are shared by those of us at Neil Huffman Subaru.

The Kentucky Humane Society accepts nearly 7,000 pets annually, most of which can be placed for adoption almost immediately. Some, however, need more help, which KHS provides through medical care or behavioral modification, before adoptive placement. The KHS has a full veterinary staff to take care of basic care and has a network of other local veterinarians to assist with more extensive needs. KHS also has a full-time behavior expert and a team of staff and trained volunteers that work with animals on socialization and treatment to reduce the stress and increase the success of training and correction of issues before adoption.

Besides adoption, KHS offers full veterinary services, dog training classes, a pet help line, educational summer camps for children, pet resorts and equine connection services. These additional services, available at very modest cost, provide animal owners the support network they need when they’re needed the most, and all proceeds from these services help financially support the ongoing operations and growth of the KHS.

The success of the Kentucky Humane Society is proven through its operations and growth. KHS has increased its placement by 300% in the past 13 years and has enhanced its animal health and adoption programs. Its addition of pet owner support programs has dramatically decreased the need for placement of pets with the Humane Society and reduced pet homelessness overall.

The Kentucky Humane Society has several locations in Louisville, Kentucky, and offers pet adoption centers at several Feeders Supply stores throughout Kentucky. You can help KHS by adopting a pet, volunteering as an animal caregiver or foster home or providing a monetary donation. Donations are accepted online, by phone, mailing a check (Kentucky Humane Society, 1000 Lyndon Lane Suite B, Louisville, KY 40222) or you can learn other ways to donate or help out this amazing organization.

Our team at Neil Huffman Subaru hopes you find this organization as worthwhile as we do and that you will consider helping them out!

How Subaru Driver Assist Technology Keeps You Safer

Subaru EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology: How Subarus Can Keep You Safer On The Road Subaru has long been a leader in car safety systems, particularly those that allow the driver and passengers to be safer in a collision. Today most car buyers take crumple zones, safety belts, airbags and anti-lock brakes for granted, but overall safety features of a car are still a priority for most people. However, the focus is now shifting from what happens during and after an accident to preventing accidents from happening in the first place. According to a Consumer Reports article, in a national survey of U.S. drivers that plan to buy a new or used vehicle in the next two years, 51% said it was very important for their next car to have a rearview camera or backup warning , and 45% said they wanted a blind-spot warning system . It’s clear that these types of preventative safety measures are an important factor in new car purchases. Subaru’s latest driver safety systems go well bey

However, gasoline itself is typically available in three grades: standard, mid-grade and premium. But some gas stations even offer “E-15” and “E-85” grades, adding to the confusion at gas pumps. First, let’s cover diesel, which is far less common than gasoline powered vehicles. Diesel is a higher viscosity (thickness) fuel, which is derived from crude or
