9 Unique Ways to Keep Your Car Spotless

People might think lathering, rinsing, waxing and repeating is the only way to make sure their car maintains its shine. However, there are several surprising and unique cleaning techniques that will remove even the smallest spots to make your car look like you just drove it off the lot.

Interior

Picking up trash and sweeping up crumbs aren’t the only ways you can keep your car’s interior looking fresh.

Cabin Filter

If you notice an unpleasant odor entering through your air vents, the problem could be your cabin air filter. Check your owner’s manual to see if your car has a removable filter, and if it does, switch the old one with a new one recommended by the car manufacturer.

Air Vents

Cabin air filters prevent allergens and dirt from entering your vehicle, but sometimes the particles end up stuck to your vent panels. Rather than brushing the dust away, try dipping a sponge brush into a multi-purpose cleaner and running it along the panels. The brush’s rough texture should help scrub away stubborn grime.

Dashboard

With all their odd corners and obstructive buttons, cleaning a vehicle’s console and dashboard can be tricky. Use a duster to remove dirt and follow along with a vacuum to catch particles as they make their way into the air. Pairing these tools together will prevent dust from being redistributed throughout the vehicle.

If you have a plastic dashboard, the secret to keeping it shiny might be olive oil. Simply dip a paper towel into some olive oil and wipe down the dashboard and plastic cup holders to keep them gleaming.

Floor Mats

Car flooring can take a beating over the years from shoes tracking in mud and debris. If your floor mats look worse for wear, spray them with stain remover and toss them in the washing machine or scrub them with an upholstery cleaner.

Upholstery

If furry friends frequently accompany you on drives, their hair has undoubtedly embedded itself in your car’s interior, especially if you have cloth seats. To effectively remove the hair, spray the upholstery with a squirt bottle filled with water and then run over the fabric with a squeegee.

For mostly leather seats, use a fine-bristled toothbrush to rattle loose crumbs from cushion seams.

Exterior

Go above and beyond the standard lather and rinse to keep your car looking brand-new forever.

Headlights

Rather than spending money on a headlight cleaning kit, you can raid your bathroom for everything you need to get the job done. Squeeze a bit of toothpaste on an old rag and scrub each headlight. The built-up dirt and grime will come right off. Rinse them with a little water and wipe them down again to make sure you got everything. It’s that easy!

Windows

If you drive with your windows almost exclusively up, you may not notice the filth that has built up on the top of them. The next time you clean your car, ensure your windows are rolled down before wiping them with glass cleaner.

Wheels

Your vehicle’s wheels go through a lot. Sometimes, simply rinsing them off with soap and water isn’t enough to remove the muck you’ve picked up along the way. Pick up the appropriate wheel cleaner for your wheel type from your local auto shop and get scrubbing!

Body

After performing your normal car washing routine, use a clay bar to pick up grime that water and soap failed to rinse off. This technique also helps eliminate any water spots left on your vehicle.

Do you know what kind of fuel to put into your car?

Confusion at the Pumps: How to Choose the Right Fuel  Have you ever pulled up to the gas station to put gas in your gar and wondered: what type of fuel should I put in my car? If you’re confused at the gas pump, you’re not alone. In the United States, there are primarily two types of common automotive fuel: diesel and gasoline. According to overall sales in 2014, gasoline is the most common fuel used. Gasoline powers more than 98% of all light duty vehicles in the States, with diesel following in a distant second at 1.5%*.   Light duty vehicles include all passenger cars, pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles. However, gasoline itself is typically available in three grades: standard, mid-grade and premium. But some gas stations even offer “E-15” and “E-85” grades, adding to the confusion at gas pumps. How Subaru Driver Assist Technology Keeps You Safer

Subaru EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology: How Subarus Can Keep You Safer On The Road Subaru has long been a leader in car safety systems, particularly those that allow the driver and passengers to be safer in a collision. Today most car buyers take crumple zones, safety belts, airbags and anti-lock brakes for granted, but overall safety features of a car are still a priority for most people. However, the focus is now shifting from what happens during and after an accident to preventing accidents from happening in the first place. According to a Consumer Reports article, in a national survey of U.S. drivers that plan to buy a new or used vehicle in the next two years, 51% said it was very important for their next car to have a rearview camera or backup warning , and 45% said they wanted a blind-spot warning system . It’s clear that these types of preventative safety measures are an important factor in new car purchases. Subaru’s latest driver safety systems go well bey...
